Things I like this month - January 25

'Things I Like This Month,' is a monthly newsletter where I share things I genuinely like or that stood out to me and felt worth talking about.

Everything you read in this article is my honest opinion, and nothing is paid for. I’m always excited to see new quality products and discover new brands or makers, so I’m always very happy when you guys send me suggestions or something you think I might like.

Buck Mason x Rocky Mountain

Buck Mason x Rocky Mountain

At this point, you are probably already familiar with Buck Mason and how well they execute their collaborations. It seems like just a few weeks ago that they released their J.Press fall collaboration, but they are already back with another one. This time, they collaborated with Rocky Mountain Featherbed on their signature Christy Jacket and Vest. The collaboration celebrates the spirit of the West. They worked with Collect Mills to make a cotton/nylon poplin blend inspired by the high-quality, military-grade fabrics of the 1940s. The design includes a single-piece suede yoke and a brass-chain Waldes zipper on the pocket, inspired by 1940s American workwear.

Fullcount x Decorum Stoned Wash Jeans

Fullcount x Decorum Stoned Wash Jeans

The Decorum is a classic menswear shop from Bangkok, Thailand, and they worked with Fullcount to create a pair of classic stonewashed jeans. It’s a classic style with a high rise and straight leg. Most quality reproduction denim brands typically only offer indigo or very original washes, so you can probably understand why this one earned the mention. I love the clean look of stonewashed denim, but it’s hard to find it made by the best Japanese denim brands.

Banton Frameworks - Mòr Series

Banton Frameworks - Mòr Series

Banton just released a preview of their new collection called Mòr, a Gaelic word for 'big.' The glasses are everything the name suggests - great, grand, and unapologetically large. These are the thickest frames they’ve ever crafted! With 13 new frame designs and all the color combinations, you can choose between 24 new glasses in total. They are launching on January 29, so take a look at the collection - you have just enough time to pick your favorite. I think I’ve already found mine!

If you’re not familiar with Banton Frameworks, in this article I talk about my experience and explain more about them.

Morjas - The Hiking Boot

Morjas - The Hiking Boot

It’s winter, so if you live somewhere where temperatures drop below zero, you know how important it is to have the right boots. In January and February, it can often be icy and very slippery. An outsole with lugs is basically a must-have in that case. But when it comes to the snow, there’s nothing better than a hiking boot. I’m very particular when it comes to footwear—especially shape, proportions, and details. And since hiking boots are often bulky, it’s even more important that they have the right shape and proportions. I think Morjas nailed this with their hiking boots. They have a robust outsole and full leather upper, but the shape is slimmed down, making this bulky style still look elegant. They’re everything you could ask for in the worst winter weather.

Beige Habilleur Fall Winter Lookbook

Beige Habilleur Fall Winter Lookbook

A Parisian menswear shop has released their fall/winter lookbook, and it’s a very interesting compilation of tonal looks. It’s definitely something different from most of what I’ve seen lately - and it’s worth a look!

Paper republic weekly planner

Paper republic weekly planner

I need to write down all my plans and ideas, so to keep everything organized I like to use the Notes app on my phone to write down ideas quickly when I’m outside or on the go, but I transfer them to my planner later. I prefer to have everything sorted by days and weeks so I can visualize what’s been done, what hasn’t, and what still needs to be completed. Most planners nowadays come in smaller sizes, A5 of smaller as most people prefer to carry them in their bags. But this year I wanted to find a weekly planner in A4 size. There seem to be very few options with functional weekly structure. Out of all the options, Paper Republic is my favorite. The layout is simple and logical, and it’s a well-made, sustainable product. They design, craft, prepare, personalize, and ship all their products from their base in Vienna.

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare

This action-comedy, directed by Guy Ritchie, is a fun, feel-good movie with a lot of masculine energy. As a fan of war and action movies, I found it to be the perfect mix of both. It is based on recently declassified British War Department files and inspired by true events. The story is built around the first special forces unit formed during WWII, led by UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill and author Ian Fleming. Their balsy tactics changed the war and led to the creation of the British SAS and modern Black Ops. I enjoyed every second of it except for one small (big) detail: they’ve put Winston Churchill in a bomber jacket with a shiny silver zipper. It bothered me for two reasons: Churchill would never wear such a sporty jacket and in 1940s there was no fancy shiny silver zippers available. It’s also worth mentioning that the main character in the movie is considered one of Ian Fleming's main inspirations for the character of James Bond.

Is there anything that caught your attention this month? Let me know in the comments.
