Ultimate Guide to the Best Quality Travel and Weekender Bags
The way we prefer to travel is as personal as our style and taste in clothes. What and how much we pack depends on the occasion and season. There are situations where you have to pack more for a two-day trip than you sometimes do for a week. Sometimes, you’ll need two suitcases, and other times, a weekender bag will be more than enough.
For shorter trips, I usually travel with a weekender and a tote. I put all important items in the tote and pack my clothes, plus usually a pair of shoes, in the weekender. But even weekender bags come in different sizes. The smallest options are usually more like an overnight bag, and the largest can probably fit enough for a week of travel.
I really like the style of weekender bags, even if they are less practical than a suitcase when heavy. If you need to carry them for a long distance, you usually regret not taking a suitcase you can simply roll. Still, I think weekender bags have their own charm. They are, in a way, a tribute to the past when everything was carried in handbags, and that’s probably why I love them so much. In my opinion, they have a very masculine appeal.
There are only 2–3 different shapes, so in general, they are all similar in some way. The details and materials are what really set them apart and also determine the cost. There are still many great makers out there, and prices can go from around 300€ for canvas options to 2,000–3,000€ for the leather ones. The price also depends on the manufacturing location - a bag handmade in England will cost more than one made in Portugal or Poland. A higher price doesn’t always mean better quality, although I think most of my readers already understand this by now.
In this article, I want to share a list of my favorite weekender bags from the best quality makers in the world.
I wanted to include all the classic options from the best makers, but also some distinctive and unique choices, like the Suit Carrier Holdall from Bennett Winch—a bag with a suit carrier attached to the outside, allowing a jacket and trousers to be wrapped around the bag to prevent hard, tight folds. Or the Felisi Nottingham modular suitcase, which offers a unique way to organize your clothes by compartments, making it easy to access everything when you unpack.
Let me know how you prefer to travel and what your favorite travel bag is. Are there any other makers that should be on this list?
