The best tote bags you can buy today - 2024 edition

If you follow me you are probably familiar with my love for tote bags. A word tote means “to carry” and the version of a tote bag as we know it today was Introduced as Bean's Ice Carrier way back in 1944, the Boat and Tote was billed as a bag made of builders' canvas for hauling ice "from car to ice chest". And it’s my favorite type of a bag. This bag looks good and works for basically everything, you can have one for work or to go to the beach. It also works if you have to carry around a little heeavier loadt than usual, so it’s perfect for a trip to the market or a grocery store. It also come in many different styles. The original and most commo version is in heavy canvas, but the you also have options with leather handles, or premium versions entirely made from leather or suede. The also come in a little different dimensions and the simples are completely plain, but more complex or premium versions can have a laptop sleeve and a few small departments inside. I want to make a list of my personal favorites from brands with great crafstmanship and attention to detail.

Classic canvas tote

I have to start with the classic canvas version. The one that started it all.

From left to right: 1.  Boat and Tote bag from L.L. Bean. Still made in Maine, USA. 2. Bleu de chauffe, made in France, 3. Fortela, made in Italy, The Armoury, made in Japan.

Premium canvas version with leather details

This option is considered a lot less workwear because of the slight change in the design. Premium details and touches make the bag look much sleeker and stylish. Together with added internal pockets or a laptop sleeve they make the bag perfect to use as a casual work bag.

Bottom row from left to right: Baron, Tusting, Croots England

Luxury version in leather or suede

Most of these have similar or identical designs to those in the premium canvas section but are made entirely out of leather or suede. This makes them a bit more eye-catching, and because they are all made of leather, they look more serious and can be used in any business setting.

Bottom row from left to right: Il Bisonte, Lotuff, Frank Clegg x Permanent Style, Croots England

This is my personal selection of styles that I prefer and suit my style the best, so I would love to hear your thoughts and if you have any other suggestions or recommendations.
