Affordable Tailoring: Best Quality Ready-to-Wear Suits Under €1000
I have to admit that in the past, I used to only wear a suit on occasions where I absolutely had to. But over the last two to three years, I’ve started wearing it voluntarily every now and then. It’s still not something I do often, but I’m becoming more comfortable wearing a suit even when I don’t have to.
The best way to get a perfect fit in a suit is to go bespoke — but it’s also the most expensive option, as you probably know. The second-best option is made-to-measure (from here on referred to as MTM), and if you don’t have a very specific body type, you can probably adjust the fit enough to make it look almost perfect. To get the best possible outcome with an MTM suit, I suggest you visit the brand in person so they can properly measure you and use their experience and knowledge to make any necessary adjustments. I would strongly advise against using any online MTM service for your first MTM suit. But this can still be too expensive for many, and people with an average build can usually fit into ready-to-wear (from here on referred to as RTW) without any issues, or may only need small adjustments, like shortening the sleeves or trousers, which any local tailor should be able to do.
Since we live in a time when many people only wear a suit once or twice a year for a specific occasion, I understand why they’re not willing to pay for MTM or bespoke. That’s probably one of the main reasons I often get asked to recommend RTW brands.
As most of the world moves into the spring and summer months, many people attend weddings or other special events. This seems like the perfect time to make a list of quality RTW suit options under 1000€. There are noticeable differences in prices, even between options under 1000€, and most of that difference comes down to fabric and the country of production. The cheaper the fabric and labor, the lower the price — pretty straightforward. Some of these RTW suits are made in the EU (Italy or Romania), while most are made in China. I usually avoid discussing and writing about products made in China but in this case I almost had no choice.I think most people looking for a suit under 1000€ don't really care much about where it's made as they're mostly focused on the price.
My recommendation will always be: if you can choose products made in the EU, Japan, Korea, or the USA (I’m generalizing here — of course there are a few exceptional brands in other countries, but they’re very rare). If you do care about that, always check if the brand has local production, or at least production in the same country. If not, the next best thing is the EU (usually Italy or Portugal) or for some products, Japan (mostly quality denim).
Most of these brands offer very similar styles - jackets with notch lapels, double vents, 3-roll-2 fronts, and light or no padding. Most also offer at least one or two 3x2 double-breasted options. The trousers mostly have single pleats and side adjusters, and most come unhemmed, so you'll need to visit your tailor to get them adjusted to your prefereence. I won’t go into too many details, but I suggest checking out all the details and measurements on the product page of any suit you're interested in. Most of these brands are also very responsive if you have any questions about fabrics or need help with sizing, even though I found most of their measurement charts very clear.
I selected 9 brands—3 of them produce in the EU, and 6 in China.
