What to pack for Christmas Holidays - Menswear edition

I was thinking about how to create a versatile and clean, but still obviously Christmas-themed wardrobe to pack for the holidays with family. This is what I came up with.

Grey Wool Herringbone  Overcoat

One piece of outerwear should be enough for a few days with the family, as most of the time you'll be inside anyway. Based on the rest of the wardrobe, I decided to go with a grey herringbone wool overcoat. It’s a very classic style that works great with the color palette of the pieces/clothes I packed.

Sportcoat

Also, I’m bringing only one sport coat since I’ll need it for just one or two occasions when dressing up. This one, in beige, caramel brown, and navy with hints of dusty blue and raspberry pink, is just perfect to pair with green and red to highlight the whole Christmas spirit color palette.

Knitwear

The pieces that would get the most wear are the mid-layers. For these, I chose one in red and one in green - obviously. A crew neck and a roll neck, to add some variety in style. I also added a thick shawl cardigan in a neutral color, in my case, that’s ecru. It’s a very warm, cozy piece that can also be used as outerwear when worn over a sweater. It’s also great for wearing indoors since you can open it if you feel too warm.

Just one shirt

I would only take one shirt because, most of the time, I’ll be in a very relaxed atmosphere, just wearing a tee with a sweater or cardigan. I went with a white shirt with red stripes because, again, it’s Christmas time, and this style works great with the other colors I’ve packed. I would actually pack at least 2 very similar styles.

Trousers

For trousers, I would go with my standard washed blue and ecru jeans, but I would add navy corduroy trousers for Christmas dinner or any other occasions where you'd like to dress up a little. Navy corduroy works great with red and green, and its sheen adds another layer to this Christmas outfit.

Accessories

I would also pack accessories in Christmas colors, or you can even choose ones with festive motifs if that’s your style. In this case, I packed red and green socks, a red scarf and a red beanie. I added a navy hat so you have a neutral option as well. It’s great for a bit of protection or hiding a bad hair day. If you have more than one watch, I suggest taking one that’s more elegant for when you dress up, and something sportier for casual looks. For perfume, I’d stick to just one for these few days. And, of course, a camera to capture some of the moments.

Footwear

I would only pack two pairs of shoes. One should be something that offers enough protection in winter, in case of bad weather or if it gets very cold. The other pair would be black leather loafers, offering something a little more elegant but still with a casual touch. Loafers are more casual and cozy than Oxfords or even most derbies.

Most of the items would fit in a carry-on suitcase, but one outfit and a sport coat would go into a suit carrier holdall bag.

I would love to hear if you pack any special pieces or outfits for the Christmas holiday, or if you have any specific routine you follow during that time.
